Regulatory Standard (NR) 1 is fundamental to ensuring health and safety in the workplace, and is the main one among the 38 existing standards.
NR 1 regulates the following topics:
- Defines responsibilities, rights of workers and employers.
- Ensures a safe environment for employees.
- Identifies and analyzes risks in the workplace.
- Establishes preventive measures to avoid accidents.
- Emphasizes the prevention of accidents and occupational illnesses.
- Requires documentation and risk management programs by companies.
Applicability: NR 1 is applicable to all companies with employees, as defined by the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), including public and private, urban and rural companies.
Update: NR 1 was recently updated to include mental health in Occupational Risk Management (GRO), addressing psychosocial risks such as stress, moral harassment and work overload. The changes will become effective on May 26, 2025.
Impacts on companies:
- Mapping and mitigation of psychosocial risks as part of preventive measures.
- Development of plans to combat problems such as stress and harassment at work.
- Investment in the physical and emotional well-being of employees.
- Implementation of whistleblowing channels for occupational issues.
Psychosocial risks: These are factors that affect the mental and physical health of workers, resulting from the organization of work and social interactions.
These changes reflect the social commitment of companies, highlighting the employer’s responsibility, as provided for in the Federal Constitution.
